Michele Morel presides over a variety of cases as a district court judge in Hahnville, Louisiana. An animal advocate, Michele Morel serves as vice-chair of the Animal Law Section of the Louisiana State Bar Association and maintains memberships in several national advocacy organizations, including The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).
In pursuit of its mission to create a more humane world for animals, HSUS oversees several community outreach programs focused on public education. One of these programs, Pets for Life (PFL), brings animal care resources, services, and information to underserved communities in several major U.S. cities, including Atlanta, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
Using a combination of door-to-door outreach and community-wide events, PFL educates pet owners about general pet wellness and encourages them to have their pets spayed or neutered. In addition to offering vouchers for free spay/neuter surgeries, PFL outreach teams work closely with pet owners to ensure that the surgeries are completed.
Since 2010, PFL teams have interacted with more than 27,000 pet owners and met over 34,000 pets. In addition to the more than 16,000 spay/neuter surgeries provided to these owners, PFL has given medications, vaccinations, and pet supplies to thousands of animals.
